Dr. Sky Tan
President
Singapore Renovation Contractors and Material Suppliers Association (RCMA)
It is with great pride and a sense of responsibility that I address you once again as the President of the RCMA committee. As we move through 2025, the renovation industry in Singapore stands at a pivotal juncture, shaped by emerging trends and significant challenges that demand our collective attention and action.
The renovation industry has been undergoing rapid transformation, driven by key trends that are reshaping how we approach design, materials, and processes.
Environmental responsibility is a primary focus, with an increasing demand for sustainable materials and energy-efficient designs. In line with Singapore’s Green Building Masterplan, we are seeing greater adoption of eco-friendly practices, including the use of low-carbon materials, energy-efficient appliances, and waste-reduction methods.
The renovation industry continues to face the challenge of fluctuating material costs and supply chain disruptions. This affects project timelines, budgets, and overall client satisfaction. As an industry, we must explore more efficient sourcing, alternative materials, and innovative procurement methods to mitigate these impacts.
Like many other industries in Singapore, the renovation sector is experiencing a shortage of skilled labor. We must invest in professional development and training programs to cultivate the next generation of renovation professionals, ensuring that they are equipped with the knowledge and expertise to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving industry.
As we address these challenges, we also recognise the immense potential to push the boundaries of what the renovation industry can achieve. RCMA’s mission is to support our members and our fellow industry acquaintances in navigating these changes and helping them thrive in an ever-evolving market.
Let us move forward with a shared commitment to excellence, innovation, and sustainability in shaping the future of Singapore’s renovation industry.
